Changes Treatment Center

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Long Beach Residents

Changes Treatment Center provides an intensive outpatient program Long Beach residents attend from our center in Costa Mesa, a short drive south across the county line. IOP treatment Long Beach residents get here means 9 to 15 hours of structured care a week, CBT, DBT and trauma-informed therapy, arranged around your life rather than on top of it. For some people, getting care a little way outside their own neighborhood is part of what makes it work. We accept major insurance plans and verify benefits in about 15 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an IOP near me if I live in Long Beach?

Changes Treatment offers a structured intensive outpatient program in Costa Mesa, about 25 to 35 minutes south of Long Beach by the 405. It is a good option for Long Beach residents who want outpatient treatment in Orange County. Use the Get Directions button to map your route.

Our Bristol Street facility in Costa Mesa is roughly 15 to 17 miles from Long Beach, usually a 25 to 35 minute drive down the 405 depending on where you start and traffic.

Some people prefer a program outside their immediate area for privacy and separation from the environment tied to their use. If that fits you, our Costa Mesa location is a straightforward drive from most of Long Beach.

Our IOP runs about 9 to 15 hours a week across several sessions, which leaves room for work and family while still providing serious clinical treatment.

No. Changes provides outpatient care. If you need medical detox or a higher level of care first, we will help you find it before beginning IOP with us.

We treat adults for alcohol, opioids including heroin and prescription painkillers, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other stimulants.

Most commercial plans cover outpatient treatment with prior authorization. We verify your specific benefits free in about 15 minutes, and many people begin within a day or two. Call (949) 807-2008 to start.

Why Some Long Beach Residents Choose to Travel for Treatment

Plenty of Long Beach residents could find outpatient care closer to home, and for many that’s the right choice. But a meaningful number deliberately look a little further out, and the reason is almost always the same: distance from the people, places and routines tied to their use. Early recovery is hard enough without running into the same bar, the same crowd, the same streets on the way to every session. Attending a program a short drive south, in Costa Mesa, puts a clean line between treatment and the environment the problem grew in.

That’s the honest case for crossing the county line: not that care doesn’t exist in Long Beach, but that for some people a bit of separation is part of the treatment. An intensive outpatient program is especially suited to this, because it’s part-time, you come down a few times a week for sessions, then go home, so the distance is a manageable part of your week rather than a daily burden. If a clean break from your immediate surroundings is something you’ve been craving, that separation can be the difference between recovery that holds and one that keeps getting pulled back.

Who This Level of Care Fits

IOP fits adults at a particular point. Some step down into it from detox or residential care, keeping momentum while returning to a normal week. Others step up because weekly therapy stopped being enough. And many start here because the problem is serious but doesn’t require full days away from work and family.

What they share is enough stability to live at home safely while needing more than a once-a-week appointment. If it turns out you need more intensive, full-day structure, we also run a partial hospitalization program, and the assessment determines which level fits where you are.

Substances and Conditions the Program Treats

We treat the full range of substance use disorders at the IOP level, alcohol, opioids (including fentanyl and prescription painkillers), stimulants, benzodiazepines, and dependence on marijuana, 7-OH and kratom. Most people arrive managing more than one at once, and the plan covers the whole picture.

Mental health is treated in the same program, not referred out. Our mental health IOP Long Beach care addresses anxiety, depression and trauma alongside the substance use, led by a board-certified psychiatrist. The two almost always feed each other, and treating one while ignoring the other is how progress unravels. Handling both together, every week, is what makes the gains hold once treatment ends.

A Typical Week in the Program

Every schedule starts with an assessment, because the right hours and focus depend on where you are. A typical IOP week runs 9 to 15 hours across several days: group therapy, which anchors the week and carries much of the real progress, individual sessions for focused one-on-one time, and skills work on managing triggers, regulating emotions and rebuilding routines.

The program moves with you. Many people start at the higher end of the hours and taper as they stabilize, stepping down toward standard outpatient care and aftercare without ever changing teams. You travel down for sessions and head home afterward, so the skills you build in the program carry back into your daily life, and your team adjusts the plan as you report how the week between sessions actually went.

Getting Here From Long Beach

Our center is at 2787 Bristol Street in Costa Mesa, usually a 25-to-35-minute drive south from Long Beach down the 405, depending on where you start and traffic. It’s a real trip, and we’ll be straight that it’s further than a local option would be, but at the IOP level, where you come in a few times a week rather than every day, most people find it workable, especially when the distance is part of what they want. There’s on-site parking, and we’ll help you build a session schedule that fits around the drive.

Coverage, Cost, and How to Begin

A common first question is how much does IOP cost, and it depends on your plan, your deductible, your copay for outpatient behavioral health, how many weeks your team recommends, and whether prior authorization is needed, which we handle. Let us verify your benefits free in about 15 minutes and tell you the real numbers before you commit. We work with major insurance plans and offer private pay if your coverage doesn’t fit. See insurance and payment options, or begin with the admissions process. If detox is needed first, we coordinate it through licensed partners.
